Scholarship Program

NEEBC's Scholarship Program was established to further the aims of the Council to advance the knowledge and education of individuals in the employee benefits field or those aspiring to careers in employee benefits and total rewards. NEEBC is proud to have contributed over $200,000 to our worthy Scholarship Recipients since the Scholarship Program’s inception in 1990.

Scholarship Awards

The NEEBC Scholarship Program1 provides for annual awards scholarship supplementing other formal programs.2 

The awards will be renewed annually, upon submission of supporting documentation, for the amount of time normally required to earn a degree, but in no instance will exceed four years.

Scholarship Eligibility

The applicant should demonstrate interest in Human Resources, Employee Benefits, and/or Total Rewards, all of which may encompass compensation/underwriting/consulting/retirement planning/ through their course of study and/or work experience.  This list includes but is not limited to:  employee/internal communications, compensation or total rewards, retirement strategies, human resources or organizational behavior, ERISA and legal aspects of employee benefits, wellbeing or work/life programs, health risk management, institutional investing, multiemployer plans, workers compensation, actuarial and underwriting analysis, health care program design, and retirement plan design/implementation or administration. Part-time or full-time undergraduate students and graduate students are eligible.

In order to be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a full-time or part-time college student (undergraduate or graduate) studying in an accredited academic program leading to a degree; residing either in New England, or enrolled in a college in New England.
  • Demonstrate an interest in a career in the employee benefits/total rewards field through either course of study or work experience.

Eligibility Exclusions

  • Current NEEBC Board and Emeriti members, their spouses, and dependents are not eligible.
  • Students who will graduate prior to July of the current year, are not eligible.
  • Students whose tuition for the fall is not payable to an accredited New England college or university are not eligible.
  • Students whose GPA is less than 2.2.

Selection Process

Awards will be based on demonstrated educational performance and benefit career aspirations and goals. Some of the criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in determining eligibility and awards are:

  • Specific employee benefit related study, activities and goals
  • School and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Future potential, and academic performance

Application Process

Download the application and complete and return it by April 1, 2024.

Each applicant will be required to provide:

  • Completed Scholarship Application 
  • All college transcript(s)
  • A minimum of two references from college professors, NEEBC members, or other benefits professionals

1As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we award annual scholarships funded by donations to the NEEBC Scholarship Fund, which covers both the cost to administer the scholarship program and the scholarships awarded.
