Mentorship Program

NEEBC advances the next generation of employee benefits and total rewards professionals through education, scholarship, community, and mentoring. Annually, we offer a year-long mentorship program primarily to advance and empower emerging benefits professionals by sharing industry knowledge and cultivating relationships and skills needed to succeed.

The mentorship program is a benefit of NEEBC membership.

What is an Emerging Benefits Professional?

HR professionals who have seven or less years of experience in benefits, rewards, or a related field. This includes employers, brokers/consultants, and service providers.

What is the NEEBC Mentorship Program?

The program consists of two components: group sessions and 1:1 mentoring.

  • Group sessions are informal, relaxed forums led by experienced professionals/leaders in the field to:
    • learn about important employee benefits topics and skills required to succeed
    • discuss specific challenges, both business- and career-related

  • 1:1 mentoring is a structured relationship with an experienced professional/leader in the field rooted in trust and open communication to:
    • share insights, skills, and experiences
    • encourage professional development

Seasoned benefits/rewards professionals and active members of the NEEBC community – employers, consultants, brokers, and advisors – serve as speakers and 1:1 mentors.

Where and How Often Will the Group Meet?

  • Four group sessions will be offered for the year.
  • The first session will be held in person in Boston from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, February 12th. (If you are located outside of the Massachusetts Route 95/495 corridor, you can opt to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams.)
  • The remaining three sessions will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (EST) on the following Thursdays: March 12th, April 9th, and November 12th (closing session).

Where and How Often Will the 1:1 Mentoring Sessions Be Held?

  • The expectation is that a minimum of one meeting per month will occur. The pair may decide to meet more frequently based on need and availability.
  • The pair will agree on the meeting setting (e.g., in person or virtual) and other logistics.

Is There a Cost to Participate?

There is a nominal fee of $99 to participate in the annual mentoring program.
