Program Description

The novel coronavirus pandemic has upended life as we know it, causing feelings of anxiety, depression, and grief. Across the U.S., people are grieving the losses of missed major life events, travel plans, face-to-face social interactions, and tragic losses of life. Health care workers are seeing first-hand the physical and emotional toll of COVID-19. Essential staff members are dealing with the risks of getting infected, or infecting family members, while doing their jobs.

Other employees are grappling with the adjustment and isolation of working from home. Parents with school-age children are feeling the pressure of working, teaching, and having little to no free time to take care of themselves. Many employees have elderly parents or relatives who are at a high risk of dying — without the presence of loved ones. Add to that the stress of endless streams of information about mandatory quarantines, and jumps in the number of infected individuals and lost jobs, and it is only natural for employees to experience fear, loneliness, burnout, and anxiety.

How long we will live in heightened tension is unknown, but the mental health toll will linger well after a vaccine is widely available. Leaders must support their staff’s mental health now more than ever. Not only is it the right thing to do for your employees, it is also the right thing to do for your organization. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that every $1 invested into “treatment for common mental disorders” will return $4 in improved health and productivity.

Discover what leading-edge employers are doing to provide mental health programs and tools
for their workforce during the pandemic and beyond.

Agenda, Speakers & Panelists

Keynote: A No-Nonsense Conversation About Mental in the Workplace
Bryan Kohl, Senior Vice President of MindWise Innovations, Riverside Community Care will discuss how the destigmatization of behavioral health in the workplace could open doors and encourage the connection to resources and treatment options that many weren’t comfortable with in the days before the current health crisis; and why it’s time for businesses to have an honest, no-nonsense conversation about mental health and substance abuse.

Behavioral Health Provider Perspective
COVID-19, like the opioid crisis, has shined a light on the need for employers to think of mental health and substance use treatment differently.
Three providers will share their perspective on what impact this has had in the short-term, and how to implement resources today for a more resilient organization tomorrow.

Moderated by Lisa Bertola, Health Consultant for Segal, panelists include:

  • Jeremy Keim, VP, Behavioral Solutions Sales, Employer Market for Optum
  • Kathy Greer, Founder and Chairman of KGA, Inc.

Innovator Solutions Perspective
A panel of three organizations that leverage technology to provide innovative behavioral health solutions - Ginger, Lyra, Talkspace - will present how their approaches differ from the more traditional approach, can enhance current offerings, fill gaps, and engage employees, even (or especially) during a pandemic.

Moderated by Elizabeth Holman, Director, Health and Group Benefits for Willis Towers Watson, panelists include:

  • Jerrod Helms, Head of Sales for Ginger
  • JoAnna Brogdon, Director, Strategic Alliances for Lyra Health
  • Dave Kasdan, MS, VP of Business Development for Talkspace
