What's the Prescription for Managing Pharmacy Costs in a Carrier/PBM Consolidation Environment?

Cost: $85 Members; $140 Non-members

Register Now or call 781-684-8700

For employers, effectively managing pharmacy costs has become as important as managing their underlying medical expenses:

  • Significant merger and acquisition activity is happening among carriers and PBMs

  • Drug spending continues to increase at a much higher rate than medical trend

  • Ongoing introduction of specialty drug costs outpace unit costs

  • Pharmacy benefit represents an increasing percentage of total health plan spend

It is critical that employers gain more awareness of their pharmacy arrangement, who the largest PBMs are and the services they provide.

So, what’s the prescription?

And, what does it mean for plan sponsors and consumers?

In this Benefits Club, you will learn from two experienced, dynamic and objective speakers:

  • Ways to best manage pharmacy benefits, including how to improve utilization and consumerism

  • Importance of plan sponsors getting involved in the clinical aspects of their pharmacy benefit programs

  • Effect of merger & acquisitions on cost and ultimately on integrated care and quality

  • Impact of drug company advertising (For example, nearly everyone has heard of Crestor, but there are generic statins which are considerably cheaper!)

  • Potential impact of Amazon or other entries into this space

Speakers:

Nick Taylor, R.Ph. - Senior Pharmacy Benefits Consultant, The Segal Group

Lance Wilkes - Vice President & Senior Equity Analyst, Sanford C. Bernstein
